Casco Begins Move to Virtualized Servers

Move to Enhance Server Speed, Efficiency, and Recovery Options

Here at Casco, we pride ourselves on our ability to quickly adopt and utilize new technologies to optimize our business practices and deliver the best possible products to our customers.

This year, we are continuing this trend by implementing server virtualization. Tapping Casco’s longstanding partnerships with leading technology vendors Dell and Microsoft, 15-year IT veteran Russ White lead Casco’s effort to virtualize our data center with Microsoft Hyper-V. Utilizing PowerEdge servers and an EqualLogic PS6000 SAN, Casco has already virtualized 15 servers and has plans to virtualize at least ten more.

Aside from obvious perks like a lighter IT workload, better data recovery, and power savings, virtualization offers significant benefits to both Casco customers and internal users. Virtualization will provide:

  • Faster provisioning of production or development/test environments for all departments utilizing a library of stored operating systems and environments.
  • Snapshot functionality, allowing Casco IT staff to “take a picture” of an environment before making significant changes (for example, prior to installing an upgrade, Windows updates, or testing a new enhancement).
  • Faster servers allowing for greater end-user productivity.

Casco expects our move to virtualized servers will once again raise the bar by which we provide customers with the best possible software solutions for today’s competitive manufacturing operations.
